Genuine Engagement on Corporate Governance Reform

Think of Investors as Partners 12 November 2025 Genuine Engagement on Corporate Governance Reform

SquareWell Partners was recently featured in a Yonhap Infomax article by journalist Kim Hak-Sung, following our joint seminar with Yulchon LLC titled “Positioning Korea: Strengthening Trust Through Governance in Uncertain Times.”

Held on 11 November 2025 in Seoul, Korea, the event brought together company representatives, policymakers, academics, and both domestic and international investors to discuss the accelerating corporate governance reforms taking place in Korea. As Yonhap highlighted, these reforms—initiated under the prior administration and continuing under the current one—represent one of the most significant changes in the Korean market in nearly three decades.

During the seminar, global investors emphasized the importance of treating shareholders as true partners and underscored how improved governance and transparency can enhance long-term value. Speakers cited international examples of effective board composition, shareholder communication, and capital deployment, while also noting that Korea’s evolving legal framework presents a major opportunity for companies to strengthen trust with the investment community.

The discussion also acknowledged that while Korea has made substantial progress in establishing the legal “hardware” for governance reform, developing the cultural “software” that enables these principles to take hold in day-to-day corporate decision-making remains an important next step.

Squarewell Partners is proud to have co-hosted this timely discussion with Yulchon and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on governance practices that build trust, resilience, and sustainable value for all stakeholders.
