White & Case - Active Shareholder Engagement

Edouard Dubois moderated a session on 'Why Investors Are Becoming Active?' White & Case - Active Shareholder Engagement

Edouard Dubois, SquareWell Partner, moderated a panel asking the question of why investors are becoming more active and how they are mirroring activist tactics in achieving their goals at their portfolio companies.

This panel was attended by some of the leading global asset managers including the names of M&G Investments and Royal London Asset Management (RLAM). The panel also featured the investment bank, Rothschild & Co, and advisory firm, FTI Consulting.

The panel discussed how the impact of regulators was affecting the activism landscape, for positive and for negative. As a result of this, stewardship activities have increased at major asset managers globally leading to many asset managers considering themselves to be ‘activists’.

They also underlined the importance of a good relationship between the company and the investor through continuos dialogue. How the company can build up trust with their investors through this method which, in turn, helps to stave off activist threats. This would have the added effect of the market pushing itself towards longer-term outlooks.
